Gregory, what a beautiful piece of writing. From Taiyi Jiuku Tianzun to Ancestor Qiu, and even Laozi himself, compassion at the heart of the tradition. This is the reality of the tradition that so many people in the west don't know or don't care to find out, bemusing themselves with an imagined "just let it flow" rhetoric which was never what the tradition actually said.

There have been serious studies quantifying just how much killing did stop after Ancestor Qiu's visit to Chingghis Khan -- how he stopped the expansion of one campaign. Ancestor Qiu emphasised the 'wei'- action - in 'wuwei', effortless action, and organised food relief and support for the starving in Shandong after the Jurchen invasion.

Compassion was always at the heart of it. thank you for this wonderful explanation. 🙏
